Today is the last day of school for my girls. I love the palatable excitement that comes along with the beginning of the long school break so I purpose to hang around them. Just like most of the Saturdays am at home that are preoccupied with chauffeuring them around – tennis games, swimming galas, music lessons, taekwondo practice, play dates, ad infinitum. Most of this time, the car is full to the brim with their friends.
As they grow older, am quickly learning that my role is mostly restricted to “designated driver.” Am also learning the art of becoming “invisible,” in my own car. And when am in this comatose state, boyo boyo! The conversations I hear. All the little boys out there would gladly line my pockets to hear what I hear. One word: Brutal! Makes me feel vindicated for the nonchalant hard stance I took in my teen years: ONLY smile and wave at the girls. I can’t imagine being talked about like this. I’d be gutted. No, I’d be maimed for life, this I tell you!
And oh, the other useful question for dads of teen / pre-teen girls is: “Is my presence here needed or is my absence needed more?” The latter is normally true;-)

Question is for dads but mums perspective is stay present please. Thank God that these conversations can even take place in your presence…
I recall growing up, the house would get so quiet when dad would arrive home one would hear the smallest of pins if it fell to the ground?.
You must be doing something or so many things right.
* The drivers short need a full pic?

The internet does not forget. But as Marianne Tino Tomusange has said. Enjoy the driving privileges before they ask for the keys and assure you how you ‘hog’ your own car. 😀

Uncle, since we are having a little girl of our own. Mary and I will will be reaching out early and often to get your advice on raising a girl. Especially when she gets older and becomes more and more independent.
October 29, 2019 at 7:00 pm
?? So true… As we grow older… We realise they do not really need-need us like when they were younger…
Glad you take off time in yo busy schedule to “hang” with them, Jacob… It’s a blessing…
October 29, 2019 at 7:00 pm
You’ve done well mwanyinazze! The reason you can be allowed in that very space.
However, imagine the talk which boys and later men have in their bu spaces about girls and women?! Murder just.
On that note . … let me pull out my signature pants for my NBi trip tomorrow
October 29, 2019 at 7:01 pm

October 29, 2019 at 7:01 pm
? all for your lovely girls.. time will come they will be the one chauffering you. The time you just need to be contented as a passenger.
October 29, 2019 at 7:02 pm
Enjoy that as long as it lasts because sooner than later they will be telling you that they will find their way then you will be anxious wondering whether they are safe. Then will come the time when you will be sitting up at night restless before they return home even if it is just 8:00 pm!
October 29, 2019 at 7:03 pm
Enjoy while you can be driver, soon they will be driving off without you?
