THE POWER OF VISION: This here was my favorite toy as a child, the precursor of the now trending View-Master Virtual Reality Viewer. It’s 41 years old. I was reunited with it many years ago, rummaging through drawers as I cleared out my personal stuff from my dad’s house. He passed on a few months after that. It’s still in pristine condition – I used it only a handful of times; even as a child I preferred reading over film. But every time I did, oh, did it transport me to far away lands. Another time, another place: The Pyramids. The ancient Greek Parthenon and Acropolis. Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel, the Roman Colosseum. Disney. The Lincoln Memorial. A whole new world! Over the weekend, I relived my childhood. Precious memories came flooding back. I snapped away at my 3D ViewMaster and whoa! It dawned on me that the places I saw on those little strips of film I have since visited – from the ruins of ancient Egyptian civilization and the Roman Empire to the National Mall. Even Disney. Coincidence? May be. But there’s power in what we can envision. The dreams we have by day, with open eyes, are potent. And it goes way beyond film stills (and enchanted places). Like Abraham of old, the principle remains: As much as you can see is what God will do for you, and through you. #Monday
