DEAR CHURCH GOER: From stammering and hot tempered 80 Year-Old Moses to impulsive and hypocritical Peter, to firebrand and impatient Paul – God calls who He wants, when He wants, how He wants. As you sit in the pews today, pray for your pastor. Not point out his flaws – those are far more than you even know – but for the grace of God, he stands.
And you, servant of God, if you think you are all that (and a bag of chips), think again. God loves to choose the weak, despicable things (and people) of this world to showcase His glory. That knowledge should keep you humble.

Been thinking, not about our dear church leaders but my fellow servants, us who sit in the pews and judge each other as if when God gave His Grace it located only a few of us! Sweet father, may you make me patient daily with whoever I don’t understand and remember they too are your children, called by you and covered with your Grace!

Julie, From the Pharisees to the Sadducees, to the pretentious rich young ruler (with an abundance of status symbols), Jesus’ most caustic comments were not to sinners but to holy-rollers. Eugene Peterson’s bible paraphrase renders best Jesus’ words on this: Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults – unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging. It’s easy to see a smudge on your neighbor’s face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own…
