My study of Paul’s letters has been quite riveting. Last evening, I was reminded that the journey of life is traveled only once. No dress rehearsals, no recaps. Today’s moments quickly turn to memories tomorrow. And many times, the long-winded journey of life throws surprises our way. That was the story of the firebrand Saul-turned-Paul. In all his missionary journeys, he longed to go to Rome, the Washington DC of our times. And to Rome he indeed went. Only not the way He expected. He showed up with only the tunic on his back (having been shipwrecked along the way), and in chains. Writing to the church at Philippi from His prison cell, the aging apostle’s message is profound: Joy is not a function of everything going right, and every relationship being perfect, but a quiet trust and confidence when the storms of life are raging. Rejoice. And again I say, Rejoice! Tomorrow very well might be today!

Well said Jacob, though many times we live as if there is another opportunity to redo all the things we desire to do.
