Trust and Obey. There’s no other way… If ever there was a contest, that Sunday school ryhme would, hands down, rank as the most resented church song. Trust and Obey. Those two words combined connote full surrender. A loss of control. But who, in their right mind would willingly give up reign and right, and say-so in their affairs? And yet, this is what God asks of us. Trust and Obey. Bitter words to swallow. Hard words to comprehend. It’s the mountain guide telling me to take the longer route. Only He knows firsthand that the pain of adding 3 hours to the climb cannot compare to the risk of falling into a crevasse and losing limb or worse, life. You see, unlike me, He’s travelled this road countless times before. He knows it’s crevasse country on the short route. And He knows I have a penchant for choosing comfort over destiny. So He reasons with me. Lets me have the final say but is clear on what’s good for me. Little wonder the kingdom of God is mostly a reverse kingdom. In order to gain, we give. We don’t ascend, but descend into greatness. Weakness is esteemed strength. To live, we must die. To self. To our will. To our ways and methods.
