About this time last year, I had clocked 2000km of running. I celebrated this milestone by taking a much deserved break from pounding the streets until after Christmas.
This morning, my jogging route ended at the gym for strength training. Year to date mileage? 1742km; 250+ short on my 2017 performance. But unlike last year, am carrying on with the running through to January and on for the new year. Why? I took the challenge from my good friend and mentor, Dave Jenkins to run a mile a day (a lot more for me!).
This is the hardest time of year to stay motivated, not with the many distractions and the overwhelming supply of cookies! Around this time also, the little talked about matter of mental health tolls its bell: Loneliness. Cold and dark days (for those in the Northern Hemisphere). This matter is very personal to me – we lost a uberintelligent and promising young man in the family many Christmases ago on this count. I’ll continue running in memory of him, and while I do, pray for the many who struggle through this season.
And the compromise? Starting with this tin of homemade chocolate pinwheels that I carried to work (and my workmates have already taken dips;-), my cookie intake will increase exponentially. By golly, I only get to indulge once a year! #RWRunStreak

Checking those biceps, Jacob. You’re obviously doing more than running! Thanks for being an inspiration.

October 27, 2019 at 3:59 pm
Why do I think this posting is a justification for cookie consumption?
October 27, 2019 at 3:59 pm
I also made a decision to continue running through the festive season….for almost similar reasons-but without cookies.
Clocked over 2000kms.

Does it matter at all about jogging security for a young lass such as this one?!
These aren’t stories. She just needs to fully understand

Lol Vicki, thanks! I mostly run. When I run (and climb mountains), I feel the pleasure of God?
October 27, 2019 at 4:17 pm
Eish Juan, that you place me in the league of the indomitable warrior gladiator Spartacus is fuel enough to keep me motivated through to January?
October 27, 2019 at 4:18 pm
Whoa Rosemary, that’s commendable. Keep going????
October 27, 2019 at 4:18 pm
Mwanyinazze, 1. Prepare your running gear before you go to bed. 2. Set the alarm. 2a. When it goes off, roll off the bed if you must (I used to do this;-). 3. Repeat 3x a week without excuse (rain or shine – my running gear has a light raincoat). Push on until it becomes a habit – 21 weeks of this will get you there!
October 27, 2019 at 4:18 pm
Joy, that’s certainly a concern. When we next meet, I’ll plot for routes that are safe to ply. You live in a good neighborhood so that’s a definite plus!
October 27, 2019 at 4:18 pm
Happily, Mwanyinazze! And you know am a hard, no-excuses task-master;-)
October 27, 2019 at 4:18 pm

Lol Rudee, my brother! Get thee behind me?
October 27, 2019 at 4:21 pm
Lol, am not too sure the sugar levels from my cookie intake can sustain 12k per day non stop – even on Christmas Day, when the family is gathered around the table???♂️ PS. Am gracefully bowing out, with extended arm toward your running highness, Tandy???♂️
October 27, 2019 at 4:21 pm
All of us are, Rai Henriette! Gear up for January. 23 days to go;-)
