Late last night I finally got round to watching the decade-old Avatar, the futuristic epic science fiction that won three oscars and has since gone on to become the highest-grossing film of all time.
In the movie, there’s a recurring line that caught my fancy. Regardless of social standing, the dwellers of Pandora always saluted each other with the greeting: “I see You.” That’s the same isiZulu salutation – “Sawubona.” The response? “Ngikhona,” which translates to ‘I am here‘.
I See You. Three little words that are so powerful. And on whose heels come transformation.
I See You. Three little words that set apart winning teams from the pile.
I See You. Three little words that can stop wars in homes and countries alike.
I See You. Three little words that are embedded in every line of good communication.
It’s the business leader hearing out the employee’s viewpoint without shooting for the answer. It’s the supervisor telling his report to go to hell in such a way that the report believes he is being sent to heaven.
It’s acknowledging another human being; taking on the very nature of God. Regardless of where we come from, He sees us, knows our story and wants to be involved in that story.
I see You. As you go about this week, can you commit to this life giving mantra? #Sunday
