My 8 year old just walked in and asked for my phone. Why, I ask? So she can check on tomorrow’s weather forecast to decide what she will wear. Am keeping a straight face but I don’t know if I should be impressed or amused!
Side Note: I asked about school. “Very boring,” she said. “The teacher won’t even allow us to pass notes in class!” I told her not to worry; tomorrow evening, I’d teach her and Laila (her best friend, in the same neighborhood) how to “back-pass” seamlessly. “We must make school great again!,” I chest-thumped. Oh, how she lit up and skipped away with a spring in her step. Knowing my munchkin, that’s all she wanted to hear; that someone she loves understands. She won’t come for that lesson. “I hear you.” “I feel you.” “I see you.” We all need this on our hardest days. That’s what God does for us. Why don’t we do this for each other?

Wow!!

The jury is still out on whether you’re a bad parent or a “baaaad” parent.

June 8, 2018 at 11:36 pm
LOL! I received detention a few times for passing notes. Could have used your Pass Back techniques! Got what I deserved… Do the deed, do the time.
June 8, 2018 at 11:37 pm
He he he Mary, I was a master at back-passing. Not a single time was I caught???♂️

Your daughter is open to you. This is a gift. Nobody should steal that space.
June 8, 2018 at 11:39 pm
You two have a great connection! I love the immediate fruit of your loving assurance – the spring in her step! The territory where you held this convo with your beauty is a scary place for many parents and many people. It is shocking how many parents fear to just be nice to their children and how many people fear to be nice to other people.

Sarah, perhaps it’s because we are wired to give only what we have? That, or else unlearning what we know, and learning what we ought to – the better way?
June 8, 2018 at 11:40 pm
Absolutely…..
June 8, 2018 at 11:41 pm
DADS ONLY

June 8, 2018 at 11:43 pm
And how I love my sister?
June 8, 2018 at 11:44 pm
Awwwwww!!!
Now that’s deep insight into the revelation of father and child. Kumbe that’s how God the father sees me?!?!?!?
What awesomeness.
This is very helpful for one such as I who is learning to very actively and deliberately commune with God as Abba! Daddy! Papa

Psalms 103:13-14; As parents feel for their children, God feels for those who fear him. He knows us inside and out, and remembers that we are merely dust..
June 8, 2018 at 11:46 pm
What if she comes??
June 8, 2018 at 11:46 pm
She will not, Marianne. She knows me too well, and knows when am cheering her up – animatedly and all?
June 8, 2018 at 11:47 pm
Is it Laila or Raila, we need to be clear here. The parents must have named her after our icon 😀
June 8, 2018 at 11:47 pm
Ah ha, Sam! You are not enough. You are too much???
June 8, 2018 at 11:48 pm
Well Jacob Zikusooka that there is intentional parenting be blessed!
June 8, 2018 at 11:49 pm
Very very touching. Assurance from the ones we trust
June 8, 2018 at 11:49 pm
hahaha…back pass seamlessly indeed…….great lesson in empathy though….understanding the emotion of the moment as it is, rather than what it should be
June 8, 2018 at 11:50 pm
Don’t we all need that, Juan! PS. I don’t recall you to be the back-passing type. C-stream chaps were masters, par excellence;-)
June 8, 2018 at 11:51 pm
I like that this good cop thing going here and I hope the motive is not to set up their mom ? . Yes dads do this alot.
June 8, 2018 at 11:51 pm

June 8, 2018 at 11:52 pm
Wise Dad.
June 8, 2018 at 11:54 pm
Sooo hear you on this Zik…all she needed was the empathy – big up on you!! As to the weather thingy inorder to know what to wear – it’s a #ChicThing?…As for the back pass seamlessly skills; this is a MUST HAVE life skill, right? Sends me back to our Seed EA immersion weeks…hmm ??
June 8, 2018 at 11:57 pm
Lol, the back-passing (and group messaging) got really bad during the last week, with Adarsh even dosing off in class????♂️
June 8, 2018 at 11:57 pm
Adarsh Shah was even caught on camera! And remember Tom Mason and Kiran throwing notes across the room to each other whilst the (mostest serious) professor tried to teach performance management in Kigali??? Aii yaii yai..Cohort 2!!!! ???
June 8, 2018 at 11:58 pm
Jacob Zikusooka ???. Can’t ever forget that. But what a week it was.
June 8, 2018 at 11:58 pm
