This week for me came with a rude reminder about the base nature of our collective humanity. How, in the face of all the despair and hopelessness that surrounds us, from countries to homes to individuals, our tendency is to gravitate towards cynicism.

The dictionary defines cynicism as an inclination to question whether something will happen or doubt if it is even worthwhile to hope for better. It’s the younger me in high school vehemently shaking the chief-cook’s hand, “congratulating” him for having broken with tradition to serve us an equal measure of stones and rice for lunch; not just some token rice in a meal of stones. Catch my drift?

The truth remains: Even when it looks like the sky is falling and the earth is unhinged from its orbit, this is still our Father’s world. And we hold on to a real and secure hope – Jesus. When it’s all said and done, He will right all wrong and wipe every tear. In the mean time, all that is required of us is to hold on to Faith. Hope. And Love. Love for God. Love for country. Love for humanity. Love is the antidote to fear and cynicism.

No. The sky is not falling.
